Local HBCU Partnerships Expand College Access in Fort Worth
Fort Worth ISD has announced new dual enrollment partnerships with three HBCUs — Prairie View A&M, Wiley College, and Huston-Tillotson — allowing eligible high school juniors and seniors to earn college credit tuition-free. New merit scholarships ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 are open for Fall 2027 applicants beginning October 1, 2026.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month Kicks Off with Community Walk
The Race for Awareness 5K launches Breast Cancer Awareness Month on October 1, 2026, beginning at Kiest Park in South Dallas. Proceeds benefit the Susan G. Komen DFW Affiliate's patient navigation fund. Registration is $30 per participant; team packages and corporate sponsorships are available at raceforawareness.org.
Young Professionals Network Reaches 500 Members
The DFW Young Professionals Network has crossed the 500-member milestone, making it one of the fastest-growing professional networks in the metro area. To celebrate, the organization is hosting a free Fall Kickoff Mixer on September 18 and launching a new mentorship matching program open to members at all career stages. City of Fort Worth Launches Small Business Grant Program
The City of Fort Worth's Office of Economic Development has opened applications for its 2026 Small Business Resiliency Grant, offering awards of $5,000 to $25,000 to minority-owned businesses with fewer than 25 employees. Eligible businesses must be located within Fort Worth city limits and have been operating for at least one year. The application deadline is October 31, 2026. Apply at fortworthtexas.gov/smallbusiness.

We prioritize events that serve the DFW Black community and broader metro area — including health fairs, cultural celebrations, professional networking events, college and career workshops, and community wellness activities. Events must be open to the public or clearly described as ticketed/registration-required.How do I submit a community news tip or announcement?
Send your news tip — including the who, what, when, where, and why — to news@communitylifestylemagazine.com.
